To help overcome the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in holiday destinations, the TUI Care Foundation has set up an extensive relief initiative to support vulnerable communities around the world. Helping to mitigate the social and economic consequences of the pandemic, the initiative provides food and hygiene packages for disadvantaged families; works with charitable organisations on the ground to help local communities; and supports innovative social entrepreneurs in tourism.

The TUI Junior Academy is an educational programme for children and young people which builds awareness of the importance of the natural world and its resources. Its projects aim to educate and change the mind-set of the younger generation, encouraging pro-environmental attitudes, interests and behaviours. It also provides young people with the opportunity to learn about the fundamental link between a clean environment, conserving nature and wildlife and positive economic and touristic development.

The TUI Care Foundation’s worldwide TUI Academy Programme offers educational and vocational training in tourism which creates opportunities for vulnerable, young people. There are currently six operating projects across four different continents. The TUI Turtle Aid Programme protects the welfare of newborn sea turtles in beach holiday destinations. The programme focuses on safeguarding turtle nests on beaches, increasing hatchling survival rates and helping local communities and stakeholders protect the sea turtle population. Ongoing outreach and engagement programmes build local knowledge about turtle conservation and innovative research and protection methods also help to safeguard the endangered global sea turtle population.

Protecting the worldwide elephant population has always been one of the TUI Care Foundation’s objectives. The Elephant Aid Programme aims to safeguard elephant populations in Africa and Asia and ensure their future protection. Its projects include supporting elephant-friendly venues where visitors can experience elephants in their natural habitat and teaching farmers on how to protect their crops with elephant-friendly solutions.

The TUI Future Fund focuses on emergency relief for children and young people who need support when disasters strike. Emergency situations, particularly natural disasters like hurricanes or earthquakes, can threaten the lives and well-being of children and families.. This means that whenever a disaster strikes, immediate action is needed. So for its TUI Future Fund activities, the TUI Care Foundation has chosen to support UNICEF, who offer emergency relief for children and young people in need when a disaster strikes, especially in holiday destinations.
