Travel Tech 4 Good East Africa

Focusing on social impact and sustainable development, Travel Tech 4 Good East Africa (Uganda & Mauritius) helps travel and tourism entrepreneurs build business skills and access the support services and know-how they need to help their startups flourish. After its success in Egypt in 2019, this next phase of the programme is again run jointly by the TUI Care Foundation and non-profit organisation enpact.

Originally designed as a three month coaching course for entrepreneurs, the Travel Tech for Good Accelerator was adapted into a two-week virtual bootcamp experience due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Local and international mentors helped entrepreneurs to redefine their business models, research potential investors and clients and bring their pitches to the next level.

Focusing on boosting business development and improving business pitches, the acceleration programme provided the four selected startups from Uganda and Mauritius and their team of founders with an intensive two-week virtual bootcamp of workshops and peer-to-peer activities.

The online bootcamp took place between 8-18th December 2020 and offered holistic support which included financial backing, expert workshops and dedicated mentoring. It focused on growing within the current reality and addressing their specific business needs.

National and international mentors delivered training and strengthened the network of the startups among other entrepreneurs, investors, and business partners. Subject matter specialists from the TUI Group acted as digital mentors and helped with communications, user experience design, strategic planning, business development and data analytics.

The bootcamp culminated with a public, online Pitch Event, where the entrepreneurs pitched in front of international experts.

The 2020 Travel Tech 4 Good accelerator participants in East Africa were:

Tripxio, a "Shopify" for tourism in Africa, enabling agents and entrepreneurs digitalize their business operations, and manage their back-office operations.

SINA Village, creating self-organised and freesponsible learning spaces, where disadvantaged young people can unleash their potential for positive change as social entrepreneurs

Mauritius Conscious, a boutique travel company dedicated to creating bespoke sustainable trips

54HOMES, an online travel accommodation booking platform

The project forms part of the TUI Cares programme, which helps entrepreneurs and local communities in holiday destinations to create unique cultural experiences for holidaymakers.

This project has ended.
