In the Tsavo-Mkomazi region, water scarcity and limited income opportunities for the local people are leading to adverse effects on the environment and negative outcomes for the people. the wildlife, and the tourism industry. Climate change has exacerbated drought in the region, disrupting normal weather patterns and creating irregular rainfall and high temperatures. As a result, the green terrain is increasingly barren, causing an estimated 109 elephants to die in Tsavo National Parks in 2022 alone. The landscape desperately needs more water flowing downstream to ranches and new water access points to be created for the people and wildlife.
TUI Wildlife Kenya improves the water infrastructures to benefit wildlife, livestock, and local people. It also strengthens farming systems to increase food security and the general well-being of the local community and equips it to diversify into revenue generating tourism products.
