Have you ever wondered why protecting and restoring forests is so important? And did you know you can help with this – in just one, simple click?
Forests provide water, shelter and food to communities and wildlife. They also offer a wealth of economic, social, and environmental benefits, including enriching soil fertility and helping to mitigate heat waves, drought, erosion and flooding.
With over two million living species often depending on one single tree (including bacteria, algae, fungi, lichens, invertebrates, wildlife and plants), forests are an incredible source of life. They’re also natural air conditioners: trees store rainwater by absorbing it with their leaves and roots, and at the same time, they also release moisture into the atmosphere via transpiration. This increases humidity and stabilises the surrounding air temperature – which can cool the ambient air by up to 8°C.
Trees also release oxygen, which means that the more forests there are, the cleaner the air we breathe. It’s no coincidence that forests are known as the lungs of the planet!
As the benefits to the environment of planting new trees will take many years to fully materialise, we owe it to future generations to do everything we can now, to leave a world with forests. And what better way to do that than by adopting a tree through the TUI Forest projects. Every adoption supports the care of a newly planted tree seedling in one of the TUI Care Foundation’s forests around the world.
