Exciting news — the Tourism for Development Fund initiative has just won the German Award for Sustainability Projects 2025.
The German Awards for Sustainability Projects, presented by the German Institute for Service Quality, in cooperation with the news channel ntv and DUP Unternehmer, under the patronage of Brigitte Zypries, former German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, celebrate initiatives that bring the UN Sustainable Development Goals to life through social impact, environmental protection or economic innovation.
The Tourism for Development Fund was created to fulfil the joint commitment of UNWTO and the TUI Care Foundation to invest 10 million EUR in Least Developed Countries (LDCs) by 2030. It has been recognised in the category "Non-Profit Projects".
And that's not all:
TUl Futureshapers Albania, in partnership with Sustainable Rural Development Program, was also recognised in the category "Equality of Opportunities" and Destination Zero Waste Zanzibar, in partnership with Chako Zanzibar, won in the category "Upcycling".
That's a triple win for sustainability in tourism!
Gratitude goes to all partners and supporters for helping prove that tourism can empower communities, drive equality, and turn challenges into opportunities.
