TUI Care Foundation sets up fund to support flood victims on Cape Verdean islands of São Vicente and Santo Antão

Berlin, 18 August 2025. Devastating flash floods which swept through the islands of São Vicente and Santo Antão in Cape Verde have left families and communities facing drastic challenges. Triggered by Tropical Storm Erin, torrential rains on Monday morning led to rainfall far exceeding the islands’ annual average in just five hours. Roads were swamped and homes destroyed. The floods have claimed many lives and forced more than 1,500 people to flee their homes.
In response to this tragedy, the TUI Care Foundation will donate €100,000 to support the affected communities. Working closely with local partner organisations on the ground, the Foundation will provide long-term support to help communities recover and rebuild. Cape Verde holds a special place for the TUI Care Foundation, as several of its initiatives are active in the island nation - supporting local education, creating job opportunities and promoting sustainable tourism.
Alexander Panczuk, Managing Director of the TUI Care Foundation: "The floods in São Vicente and Santo Antão have had a devastating impact on local communities, resulting in tragic losses and widespread damage. The TUI Care Foundation stands in solidarity with those affected. Cape Verde is not just a destination for us - it’s a place where we have built lasting relationships through our projects, and we feel a deep responsibility to offer support. With our relief fund we will provide long-term support to affected communities and help them to receive the resources they need to recover and rebuild."
