Meet Ayoub from Ndunduke, the village where our TUI Forest Zanzibar is located.
Growing up surrounded by nature, he never imagined how quickly the landscape could change because of development - or how much his own mindset would change too.
"When I started working as a gardener, I thought that cutting down the trees to make space for farming and more buildings was the only way forward. I thought that people who wanted to save the forests didn't know what they were talking about", says Ayoub.
But joining the TUI Forest Zanzibar initiative two years ago completely shifted Ayoub's outlook on forest conservation.
"I've seen the changes and benefits with my own eyes. I've learned so much: about farming, the land, and the forest itself. Working alongside the forest consultant and botanist has been so interesting and fulfilling as they appreciate my knowledge and my work."
Now, TUI Forest Zanzibar is not only restoring the forest but also welcoming tourists to experience the conservation efforts.
"Seeing visitors come and enjoy the forest we've worked so hard to protect is such a nice experience. It's something truly different for Zanzibar, and I'm proud to be part of it", Ayoub shares.
The TUI Forest Zanzibar initiative is made possible through a partnership with the Kawa Foundation.
