The TUI Care Foundation’s TUI Forest Dominican Republic project has been honoured with a German Award for Sustainability Projects in the category of ‘Climate Protection’. The prestigious award ceremony took place on 11th June in Berlin and was organised by the German Institute for Service Quality, the DUP-Unternehmer-Magazin, and ntv. The evaluation was based on four key focus areas: the effectiveness/benefit of the project; innovation; relevance to the company's core business and the industry; and timeliness.
TUI Forest Dominican Republic, carried out in collaboration with the Global Nature Fund and CEBSE, has successfully planted 3.2 million mangrove trees near the city of Sanchez. As part of the project, a tree nursery was established in the El Cangrejo area, and another was renovated along the popular Las Garitas hiking trail.
Additionally, the project benefitted from a three-month mentorship by Carmen Morosan from TUI Musement, whose support helped to develop minimum requirements for creating a tourist offering.
